A common question we field is from people who would like to bypass the transcription process following meetings. Minutes are often derived from shorthand notes and whether a one-on-one interview or full board room table gathering, there are instances where it would be so much easier to have a full written transcript. Whether a secretary is reporting back on a meeting, condensing the most salient points or putting together a verbatim transcript, Dragon can factor into the process.

It’s not quite at the level where you can simply have it automatically transcribed like you would with a single voice. The processing power and individual voice inputs makes this a bit difficult to distinguish between the nuances of each speaker’s voice. Then, it’s also tricky to constantly adjust to each speaker’s unique characteristics in order to process these voices concurrently.

So while there will no doubt be applications that can do this efficiently, right now – the best you could hope for is a loosely accurate rendition. When you dictate, you’re speaking for Dragon. During a board room meeting, people speak with different intonations and speeds. While possible, it’s more challenging to have people speaking like newscasters and maintaining their train of thought.

You could argue that this would actually improve meetings if people were more considered and deliberate about what they were saying. We have had a few situations where in order to accommodate team members with hearing impairment, we arrange for each board room member to dictate into Dragon and cast a central view screen for the transcribed meeting to flow more easily without as much switching for lip reading.

Dragon can be easily integrated into the transcription process or the actual board room meeting itself. Whether you’re trying to get your minutes out quicker, have a full transcript of your interview or just facilitate better and more efficient meeting management, contact HCD so we can tailor a productivity solution to match the unique challenges of your meeting process.
