Dragon is a resource-intensive software programme. The product has to record your voice, decipher the sound, process it through its cutting edge algorithms, make the best guess from a vocabulary of hundreds of thousands of words… all in the space of a second before deploying the finished transcription. While most users don’t really think about this processing power, it’s pretty phenomenal when it comes down to it.

Humans are able to use their brains, senses, experiential learning and context to make it easier to understand one another. While this is probably even more incredible considering we’re living, breathing organisms composed mostly of water… Dragon’s achievement as a form of artificial intelligence is still staggering. The software doesn’t understand English but uses patterns and sound waves to piece together the nuances and frequency of words within their syntax to make educated guesses. It learns from you by figuring out which words you use more frequently and in some cases only realises what to put on the page based on how many times you’ve given a homonym preference.

Being a powerful processor of sound and data, it’s important that you have the right specifications for optimal usage. We encourage our users to get as much memory as their notebook can handle. If you’re looking at getting a new computer in the next few months or in anticipation of integrating it with Dragon, here’s our handy guideline.

1. Processor: Intel i5 or i7 (7th or 8th Generation Chip set) @ minimum 2.5 GHz
